AbstractHistoryArchive Description

A memoir of Joe McGinness an Aboriginal man from the Paperbark people in Northern Territory. After Joe's Irish father dies he and his mother are suddenly placed under white government policies which lead them to be incarcerated. Joe gets involved in the trade union and as an Aboriginal activist he begins his journey fighting for change to the staus and conditons of Aboriginal people.

McGinness was the National President for most of the life of the organisation (1958-77). Bandler held many positions, including Acting General Secretary and Director of the 'Vote Yes' Committee in the 1967 Referendum.'  (Introduction)
