Notes

  • In an accompanying note, The Queenslander informed readers : 'The subjoined poem by Adam Lindsay Gordon has a special interest for two reasons. In the first place it has so far as we are able to discover, never been published, and in the second it is one of the last the dead poet penned. It was in fact written only a fortnight prior to his melancholy death. We are enabled to publish it through the kindness of Mr. W. D. Armstrong, M. L. A. , who received it from the daughter of Mrs. McGillivray, one of Gordon's best and oldest friends.'
