Closely affiliated with the Australian Labor Party, the Daily Standard was published in Brisbane between 10 December 1912 and 7 July 1936 (7322 editions). It enjoyed the support of politician Richard Sumner, who at one point put up his personal assets as financial surety for the paper; the paper, in return, appointed him to a special position on the board. The paper (along with the Worker) was edited for some years by unionist Walter Russell (Jack) Crampton, who also wrote for it under the pseudonym 'Jack Aster'.
