AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Windmill Baby is the story of Maymay, an old Aboriginal woman who returns to the deserted Kimberley cattle station that was her home 50 years ago. A one-woman redemption piece told through Indigenous voices, with the endearing characters of Wun-man, Two-man, Aunty Darbella and old Maymay, this play is delivered with the poetry of a campfire storyteller.

Production Details

  • Read at the 2004 Australian National Playwrights' Conference and performed in a staged reading at the Wharf 2, Sydney on 20 May 2004.

    First full production at the Subiaco Theatre Centre on 23 February 2005. Directed by David Milroy, starring Rohanna Angus.

    Also produced at the Salisbury Festival, England, and toured to Canada, regional Australia and Belfast in 2006. Produced at the Mumbai Festival, India, in January 2007.

    The production toured through schools by Yaakin Noongar Theatre in 2009.
