Author's Note: 'The book is based on [Evelyn Maunsell's] written recollections of those days and numerous conversations between herself and Hector Holthouse, who has written the story in its present form.' The first-person narrator recalls her life from 1912 at Mount Mulgrave cattle station on the Mitchell River, at Wrotham Park Station on the Atherton Tableland in the 1920s, and from 1951 at Rio Station near Longreach.
