'Thirteen Hundred Ashtrays tells the true story of Yang Li's journey from China to Australia via Malta, Hungary to Romania. Yang is a star of Chinese stage and screen, virtuoso actor, director, naughty boy, lover, Tiger Balm salesman, survivor and collector of ashtrays - thirteen hundred of them, each with a story. His journey is one of political upheaval, danger, great humour and search for peace. Thirteen Hundred Ashtrays uses the music of the Chinese stage, film, storytelling, song... and the remarkable talents of Yang Li himself.'
