Author's note: Being an account of the Pacification of the Natives of Malolo Island from the Privie Journall of the Second Mate of the Flagship, Vincennes.

AustLit note: During the US's first exploring expedition (1838-1842) two members of the crew of the Vincennes were murdered on the island of Malolo. In retaliation, Lt. Charles Wilkes ordered an attack on the local Fijian people, resulting in the deaths of 87 natives and the destruction of two villages.
