'These short tales relate mainly to pioneering and gold-mining during the [eighteen] seventies in north-western and north-eastern Victoria, along the Murray, and in the Riverina. There are references to bushranging, including the Kelly gang.' (Miller, Australian Literature from its Beginnings to 1935, 1940)
