AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'The story of a mysterious woman who travels through North Korea. Here, nothing is as it seems, everybody has their secrets: strangers are polite, but each hides his or her true feelings from the other. Can what's true for individuals also be true of countries? Ridden by drought, with a collapsing economy and few allies in the world, North Korea's official face to the world stresses the greatness of The Leader and insists upon a golden future and a glorious past. But away from their colleagues and over a few drinks, even party apparatchiks are inclined to speak of doubt and fear.

In this clever mix of fiction and fact, writer Noelle Janaczewska provides us with a rare insight into the paradoxes of tourism in a country which now has the dubious distinction of being part of an 'axis of evil'.'
