Mateer provides an account of a symposium sponsored by the prominent Australian artist Domenico de Clario and inspired by the lecture series, 'The Abuse of Beauty' by the American phiolosopher Arthur Dante.

Artists, writers (including Mateer and Andrew Taylor) and theorists gathered in Albany to 'discuss the idea of beauty in contemporary culture'.
