AbstractHistoryArchive Description
Beginning with the 1960s public argument between novelist Xavier Herbert and his one-tiime editor 'Inky' Stephensen, this historical study looks at the stormy publishing as well as personal relationship between the two in the 1930s. It traces the evolution of Capricornia from an unwieldy and unpublishable million-word first draft to the much studied bestseller which has rarely, if ever, been out of print since its original publication in 1938.
