Author's note: There is a Edward Nugent, parts of whose writings I have used here to form the consciousness of the old man in the storm drain. Edward is seventy-nine years old. He lives in a not unpleasant tiny room in the Salvation Army hostel in Linden Park, Adelaide. I have not altered the spelling, the style or the expressions of his writings.
