Austral Light was a Catholic magazine with articles on a wide range of topics and of a high literary standard, which existed from the early 1890s until the early 1920s. It began as a private venture, but was taken over by the Church as a semi-official publication in l900. The Irish born priest, Fr J.J. Malone, became manager of the magazine in l910.
