Bradford gives a brief but concise overview of the issues discussed in three of the articles, 'Separation Anxiety in Three of Gillian Rubensteins's Picture Story Books' (Alice Mills), 'Literature and Mythmaking in Seven Little Australians (Sharyn Pearce), and 'Schmalz is as Schmalz Does: Sentimentality and Picture Books' (Clare Bradford). This includes considering how children's texts are situated within the context of market forces and 'market-driven production' as well as examining the influence of adult 'preconceptions, beliefs, anxieties and uncertainties' in relation to children's reading practices (4).
