AbstractHistoryArchive Description
'It is a tale of love and exciting adventures, with a sinister Chinese figure in the background, and its scenes are laid in the Australian bush, a town and on an island off the coast, where opium smokers have a secret cavern in which they store the opium before taking it to the mainland. From the opening scene–in which Jim Lambert is struck down by shadowy figures in a dark street, accepts an inheritance and a trust from a dying man–the narrative deepens in mystery and drama and keeps the reader closely interested to the end.'
