Jacob and Solly Kaiser's world suddenly falls apart when they are pitched into the alien world of a Sydney children's home. It is the 1930's, Depression-time, clouded by the rise of Fascism in Europe. Tragedy and comedy intermingle as Jacob steps through the minefield of his teenage years to discover his own place in the world.
Set in Sydney and Palestine in 1947, this novel continues the odyssey of Jacob Kaiser. At odds with post-war Australian society, Jacob yearns for the pioneering life in the emerging Jewish State of Israel. But Ruti, his childhood sweetheart, no longer shares such dreams. Eventually, someone very different joins Jacob in his search for fulfilment.
