Notes

  • 3 poems, by D. G. 'Spence stated... in 'The Art of Public Speaking. The Woman Speaker' (Register 11 Dec 1909 p 15ab) that she had published verses in the South Australian, including some in honour of Sir George Grey when he left South Australia. As D. G. is the author of the only verses in the South Australian written about Governor Grey, I conclude that D. G. was Spence's pseudonym at the time. The poems are consistent with Spence's background and sentiments' (Barbara Wall, private communication.)
