Release Dates:
1. World premiere held in London in October 1967. The Australian premiere was held simultaneously on 4 December 1957 at Port Augusta (South Australia) and Bourke (NSW). Other release dates include Australia (20 December 1957: commercial release); Sweden (26 December 1957); USA (1958); Denmark (6 January 1958); Finland (6 April 1958); Japan (22 April 1958).
2. Released on videocassette format in 1998 by the Rank Organisation. Re-released on DVD format in 2005.
Location:
- Filmed on location in New South Wales (Bourke, New South Wales) and South Australia (Flinders Ranges, Gawler, Willochra Plain, and Wilpena Pound). Interior scenes filmed at Pagewood Studios, Sydney. Some additional interior scenes were also filmed at Pinewood Studios, London (England).
Notes:
1. The length of the film varied in some countries. The version exhibited in the UK was 99 minutes. The film was expanded by some five minutes for the Australian screenings (at 105 minutes) but heavily edited for the US release (83 minutes).
