Robin Hood's Letter : Our Libel Prosecutions 1846 single work column

In October 1846 Robert Lowe on behalf of Benjamin Boyd brought a charge of libel against the Chronicle over a letter signed 'Robin Hood', published in the 23 September 1846 issue of the newspaper, despite an apology printed in the Chronicle on 7 October 1846. The case was reported in later issues of the Chronicle including 31 October 1846. An ironical poem Boyd v. Hawksley was also published.

A further apology and explanation for the inferior quality of the paper used for the printing of the Sydney Chronicle is published in this column with the author 'expressing a wish that ... country subscribers were as punctual in their payments as they are ready with their complaints.'
