Notes

  • Preface and note by A. G. S. ( A. G. Stephens): Acknowledgement of prior publication is made in several cases to The Bulletin (Sydney), The Bookfellow, Building (Sydney), The Amateur Gardener, Young Australia, and The Messenger of the Presbyterian Church of Australasia. The greater part of the contents is now first issued. The verses of this small book contain the author's life in New South Wales during many years. They have been deeply meditated: some are beautifully uttered. At her height Miss Robertson weaves thought and feeling into a perfect texture of words. The harmony of 'The Canary' is remarkable: when heat turns to flame 'Bereaved' reaches the ecstasy of poetry. A little of the work is classic.
