Author's note: The book of verses which the Bread and Cheese Club here offers is its first formal, official publication of a strictly literary nature. Consisting in seven sets of verses by Club members, whose names are not unknown to readers of Australian literature, it must, of course, stand on its own merits. By this its literary worth will be measured. But, however the reader may qualitatively judge it, this will be agreed - it is an earnest and token of the purpose and province of the Bread and Cheese Club. P.I. O'Leary. Melbourne, January, 1938.
