AbstractHistoryArchive Description

"Shipwreck, written in 1951, recreates the infamous mutiny that occurred after the Dutch ship Batavia foundered off the northwest Australian coast in 1629. It is a complex and literary play which depicts with sympathy the anarchic mutineers Cornelius, Huyssen and Seevanck."

Production Details

  • Produced at the Metropolitan Theatre at St Laurence Hall, Sydney in September 1949, and subsequently at the Little Theatre, Melbourne, 1951 and by the Canberra Repertory Society at the Riverside Theatre, June 1960. Produced professionally by the Elizabethan Theatre Trust, Union Theatre, Sydney, 1962.
