Eleven-year old Fatma Akalay has come from Turkey with her family to start a new life in Melbourne, Australia. As both her mother and father have to work to save the necessary money to bring Fatma's grandparents to join them in Australia, Fatma is obliged to stay home from school to look after her three-year old brother Levant. When Levant becomes lost one day Fatma is reluctant to involve the police fearing that the authorities will discover she does not attend school. Fatma is worried that she has placed the family's future in Australia in jeopardy.
