'An adult novel that explores the fantasy of a writer's ideas and the reality of life in the late 20th century. The plot follows the downfall of Robert Merton as he discovers that his charming children's stories can take on a gruesome life of their own. Laura Williams, the schoolteacher in the small country town of Sparrow Hill, also has to face this elaborate crime that arouses the country into passion and fury.'
