'In The Morning Glory (5) the land itself was enough to inspire me. Yet it was years before I wrote about it. I had spent a holiday once on a cattle station away up in the Gulf Country. It was simply a world of its own. And the immensity of country really got into me. Yet it wasn't until after I'd returned a second time to the far north west that I felt I knew it well enough to write about it. Perhaps I was being presumptuous in doing so even then; it takes a lifetime to really know that country in all its moods.' Margaret Paice, 'A Dream Metamorphosed', Writing and Illustrating for Children : Children's Book Council of the A.C.T. : seminars 1975-80, ed. Eleanor Stodart (1985): 128-132.
