BiographyHistory

As a young man Guy Morrison moved with his family to an island off the coast of Queensland to establish an artists' and writers' colony. The family remained on the island for a year, but left 'when a cyclone destroyed their hut'. The experience formed the basis for Morrison's book We Shared an Island (1952).

Morrison served in New Guinea during World War II. He later worked for the Daily Telegraph in Sydney, the News Chronicle in London, the Australian in Canberra and the Sydney Morning Herald.

Morrison was an active participant and organiser in social issues including the disarmament and anti-Vietnam War movements and in promoting Aboriginal land rights.
