May Hunt's father was known as Big Jack Quayle who was a respected man with many skills. Jack Quayle met May's mother working on a station while he was contracted to break horses and her name was Hannah Hamilton. Hannah and Jack both had a European father and Aboriginal mother. May Hunt was an independent woman who enjoyed working with horses and hunting wild game by herself. May married Bill Hunt, an Irishman who was also known as a happy person and they moved to Willangie Station for employment. May and Bill would travel around in search of work and over this period May gave birth to Roy, Doreen, Harold, Eric and Beulah. May taught all of her children to respect themselves and others. After May and Bill separated, May worked strenuously to provide for her family throughout her life and is fondly remembered by them.
