Michele McCrea lives on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia. She has worked in film, television, and radio as a writer and assistant editor, in corporate communications, counselling, and education. She undertook her doctorate in Creative Writing at Flinders University.

In 2005, Michele McCrea won first prize in the United Kingdom's The New Writer's competition, Novella category, for her work "The Healing Effigy".
