Charles Surface contributed letters to the 'Metropolitan Stage' column in Bell's Life in Victoria (e.g. 29 September 1866, p2). He shares a similar surname to Oliver Surface, the name attributed to the same column in 1865 (e.g. 4 November 1865, p2). It is yet to be established whether the two contributors are related or whether the names are pseudynoms for one critic.
