BiographyHistory

William Ridley was educated at King's College and London university. He came to Australia at the behest of John Dunmore Lang, entered the Presbyterian ministry and spent several years as a missionary at various places in Australia. Ridley was a linguist and published important early works on Aboriginal languages. He was also 'connected with the literary department'(s) of Sydney newspapers such as the Empire, the Evening News, and the Australian Town and Country Journal.
