Film and television director, producer.
Educated at Presbyterian Ladies' College and the University of Western Australia, Melissa Hasluck gained a B.A. in Arts, majoring in French. After spending some time living in Europe during her early twenties, she returned Australia to to pursue her interest in film. Hasluck graduated from Swinburne University, Melbourne, in 1992, with a Graduate Diploma in Film and TV. Since then, she has worked in the industry in various production roles, from art director to first assistant director.
Hasluck's breakthrough as director and producer was Josie Ningali Lawford, a half-hour documentary aired on SBS TV in 1997 as part of the six-part series Artists Up Front. That year, she won the West Australian Screen Award (WASA) for Emerging Producer for her work on the series. In 1999, Hasluck was awarded a ScreenWest New Producer Fellowship, which she used to undertake attachments both in Australia and abroad (with Working Title in London).
Melissa Hasluck has made a substantial contribution to the production of many well-known Australian films. Through her company, Melissa Hasluck-Cecile B Deux Mels, she produced Teesh and Trude, which has been shown around cinemas in Australia, at film festivals in Australia and overseas, and on SBS Television.
