BiographyHistory

Iwan Bloch was born in Delmenhorst, Germany in 1872. Together with Magnus Hirschfeld, Bloch proposed the new science of sexology, paving the way for an anthropological approach to the theory of sexuality. Sigmund Freud noted that Bloch's perspective was groundbreaking, but four of his works were banned as prohibited imports into Australia. Bloch was also the first publisher of the Marquis de Sade's The 120 Days of Sodom.
