BiographyHistory

William B. Dick and Lawrence R. Fitzgerald were both apprentices for the New York publisher Burgess, Stringer and Company, which they took over in 1858. The firm's publications included journals and compilations for home entertainment, and a range of cheap novels and plays.

The business was continued by William Dick's son Harris from 1898 until his death in 1916. In the following year it became the Fitzgerald Publishing Corporation.
