Josef Lesser was born in a labour camp in Siberia. The only members of his family to survive the Holocaust were his mother and uncle. He migrated to Australia as a child, with his mother and step-father, and the family settled in Sydney. Lesser worked in photography and disability services and he began writing poetry following his retirement. His work has appeared in literary journals and websites.
