Edmund Mitchell was a Scottish journalist who worked at the Melbourne Age during the late 1880s and the 1890s. He was Secretary of the Pastoralists Association of Victoria 1890-1892. He later moved to the USA. Mitchell was the author of several works of fiction, ranging from A Mysterious Trust (1886) to The Call of the Bells (1916). However, as far as can be established, only the boy's adventure story The Lone Star Rush (1901) has an Australian setting, although, during his time in Australia, he would have written The Temple of Death (1894) and, possibly, the children's book Chickabiddy Stories (1899). He was also the author of The Labour Question in Australia (1892).
