Guofu Wang was appointed Dean of the Foreign Languages Department at Suzhou University, China, before 1989 and remained in that post for more than a decade. During that time an Australian Studies Centre was established there. He has visited Australia several times, is also the author of a Dictionary of Australianisms and in the late nineties received the Australia-China Council Translation Prize for the Macquarie English Chinese Bilingual Dictionary .
