BiographyHistory

Henry Yiheng Zhao trained at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and at the University of California, Berkeley. Since 1985 he has published over twenty books of literary criticism and Chinese literature including essays, translations, short stories and poetry. As Reader and Professor in Modern Chinese Literature at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) of the University of London, he has published as a commentator on internal and external cultural influences on modern Chinese Literature, notably Towards a Modern Zen Theatre (2000) and The River Fans Out: Chinese Fiction Since the Late 1970s, European Review (2003)
