Lady Poore was the daughter of the Lord Bishop of Limerick. She and her husband, Admiral Richard Poore, resided in Australia from 1908 to 1911, after he was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Australian Antarctic Station. She met Antarctic explorers Shackleton, Scott and 'Teddy' Evans. (Shackleton gave her a Samoyede puppy that had been born aboard the Nimrod on the return trip from Antarctica.) Her other publications, unrelated to her time in Australia, include My Sister Barbara, Passages from the Diary of Diana Russell (1897), An Admiral's Wife in the Making 1860-1903 (1917), Rachel Fitzpatrick (1920) and Harbour Lights, an Episodic Chronicle (1922).
