BiographyHistory

'George Herbert Rogers was educated at a preparatory school in Bath, then at Lancing College (1886-1891), won a Demyship at Magdalen College, Oxford (1891-1894), graduated with honours, and in 1895 went to Leeds Clergy School. He was ordained deacon in 1896, and priest in 1897. He worked at Holy Trinity Church, Leeds for three years (1896-1899), then in Lincoln Diocese from 1899 to 1907, first as a St. Hugh's Missioner and then as Vicar of Hainton with Sixhills. Early in 1907 he left England for Queensland, where he served as Rector of Rockhampton for 9 years, and as Archdeacon of Rockhampton until his death in 1926. During this time he only twice revisited his native land, once in 1911, and again in 1922; when he broke his journey home in order to visit Eqypt and the Holy Land ... he had a decided gift for drawing and painting, a sound understanding of, and appreciation for music, and a working knowledge of many languages.'
