Tony Shillitoe graduated from Flinders University with a B.A. (Honours) and a Diploma of Education. He subsequently completed a Bachelor of Education through Hartley College. From 1977 Shillitoe taught English in Whyalla and Adelaide, South Australia. He was Head of English at Concordia College, Adelaide, and also at Jerudong International School, Brunei. Shillitoe worked as a tutor for Workers Educational Association writing courses and also wrote Technical and Further Education course books. Shillitoe began professional writing in 1992 with the first of the Andrakis series. A succession of short stories appeared in various anthologies and magazines from 1996 to 2000. He was a judge for the 1998 Aurealis Horror Fiction awards and a guest writer at the 2000 Adelaide Festival of Arts Writers' Week.
