BiographyHistory

A noted figure of early twentieth-century art, Austrian painter Gustav Klimt explored the themes of life, death, and eroticism. Both controversial and innovative, Klimt's highly ornamental style was defined by his use of symbolism and decorative detail. Many of his works are richly surfaced with the artist's trademark use of gold embellishment.
