BiographyHistory

After completing Greek primary and high school in Egypt, Charis Baloglou went to Athens and studied pharmacy for two years. He then enrolled at the Teacher's Academy of Rhodes. After completing his two-year training he returned to Egypt where he worked as a teacher of Greek in Port Said until his emigration to Australia in 1964. Baloglou spent fifteen months in Sydney and then moved to Melbourne where he worked as a chemical assistant for Olympic Tyres. He returned to Egypt in 1967.

Always interested in poetry, Baloglou published his first sonnets in 1957. Several of his poems were published in Greek language newspapers. In Australia, in 1964 he wrote a regular column Educational Subjects in To Ethniko Vema. He also wrote several articles on socio-educational subjects in Greek newspapers of Australia. In 1966 he had ready for publication a short story collection Isolation, a poetry collection Poems, a translation of Homer's Odyssey in verse and a study titled Revelations of Mythology. A presentation of his life and work was published in the newspaper I Sphinga in May of 1965. Baloglou sometimes wrote under the pseudonym 'Pilousiadis'.
