Edith Harrhy was a singer, pianist and composer who was educated at Shenley House School and continued her studies at the Guildhall School of Music in London from 1909 to 1913. She first visited Australia in 1915, touring with violinist Mary Law, and in 1919 married an Australian and subsequently settled in Melbourne. During the 1920s, Harrhy travelled with her husband, a commercial pharmaceutical representative, broadcasting and giving concerts and recitals for clubs, societies and charities. Often her performances were her own compositions, accompanied by other musicians.Her work included two light operas and many songs some of which were for children.

The Music Theatre Guild instigated an award named in her honour, the Edith Harrhy Award for Outstanding Contribution to Musical Theatre.
