Based in Brisbane, Queensland, Chris McMahon is a Australian speculative fiction writer with a background in chemical engineering. After graduating from the University of Queensland with an honours degree in Chemical Engineering in 1986 he became involved in the development of alternative fuels and energy sources. His career in this area also led to him working extensively in the environmental and greenhouse fields. In 2003, however, he took another career path, managing a private Speech Pathology Practice, SpeechNet with his wife Sandra.
McMahon had his first novel, The Calvanni, published in 2006. That same year it was selected for the DSD’s Creative Industries Queensland Writers Showcase held in New York. His short fiction has been published in such magazines and an anthologies as Orb, Aurealis, Borderlands, Redsine Eight (2001), Fantasy Readers Wanted (2003), The Devil in Brisbane (2005), Fantastical Journey's to Brisbane (2007) and Anywhere But Earth (2011). One of his stories, 'Within Twilight,' was short-listed for the 2002 Aurealis Award in both the SF and horror categories.
In addition to his writing McMahon has been a long time member of the Australian Society of Authors. He has also been associated with the Thursday Critiquers and the Vision Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror writer's community.
