BiographyHistory

Burroughs was a highly successful American science fiction author who influenced the work of a number of Australian writers, among them A. Bertram Chandler, Alan Connell and David J. Lake (qq.v.). Burroughs's works included a series of stories set on Mars (chief among them A Princess of Mars, which was the first inter-planetary romance novel and the work responsible for establishing the science fiction sub-genre commonly referred to as 'space opera') and Venus, as well as a long series of books based on his creation, Tarzan.
