'Wayne Coolwell is of Munanjali heritage and his traditional country is the Beaudesert/Mt Tamborine region, which is about an hour's drive south-west of Brisbane. Wayne has spent most of his working life involved in the media and communication, working as a journalist and broadcaster for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation for 15 years from 1984 to 1999.

Coolwell has worked as a freelance consultant for Government agencies and has helped to curate some exhibitions for the Brisbane City Council and for the State Library of Queensland featuring Indigenous history, culture and people. He has also been heavily involved in promoting bush tucker to the wider community through a restaurant and a catering business.

Wayne Coolwell has spent much of his time promoting Aboriginal people through his vision of self empowerment and economic independence. While he believes that reconciliation is an important initiative he also understands that a lot more needs to be done to create greater opportunities for Aboriginal people.'
