Robert Messenger is gratified that the National Library of Australia's exhibition The Life of Patrick White correctly identifies the make of White's typewriter as an Optima. The typewriter had been previously mis-labelled by the State Library of New South Wales as an Olivetti.

Robert Messenger reveals that the main character in D.H. Lawrence's novel Kangaroo, was based on William John Scott (otherwise known as John or 'Jack' Scott), the brother of Allen Humphrey Scott. Laurence's wife, Frieda Lawrence was the cousin of 'The Bloody Red Baron', Manfred von Richthofen.
