BiographyHistory

Carole Nomarhas is a speculative fiction author and publisher who was based in Canberra (ACT) for many yeras and whose speculative fiction has been appearing in print in Australia and overseas since at least the late-1980s. Her stories, which fall within the genres of science fiction, fantasy and horror, have been published in print and online magazines/zines such as Eidolon, Aurealis, Antipodean SF, Outrider, Jackhammer, Twilight Showcase, Winedark Sea and Eternal Twilight. She has also had her work included in such anthologies as Singularities (1989), Alien Shores (1994), the Horror Writers Association affiliate anthology Bell, Book and Beyond... (2000), Land/Space (2002).

In 1998, Nomarhas's story, 'Grievous Music' (1997) was short-listed for a Ditmar award. The following year she was awarded a First Class an Honours degree at the Australian National University after having submitted a thesis on Social Psychology and the Holocaust. 1998 also saw her establish The Goblin Muse webzine, a site for market news, reviews and horror fiction, aimed at horror writers. This led to her being offered the position of e-zine reviewer for Dark Matter Chronicles in 1999.

Aside from her writing Nomarhas has worked as a public servant, being employed in Canberra by the former Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) and the Australian Bureau of Statistics. In 2012 she and her husband, photographer and Paralympian Jim Nomarhas, moved to Wallendbeen, New South Wales.
