BiographyHistory

The company W. K. Thomas and Co. was formed when William Kyffin Thomas and some associates purchased the South Australian Register and Adelaide Observer newspapers. Thomas was the son of Robert Thomas, South Australia's first printer, and founder of the Register. Between 1864 and 1878 the company was known as Andrews, Thomas and Clark. From 1877 William's son, Robert Kyffin Thomas, was principal joint proprietor, and after his death the business was continued by his sons, Reginald and Geoffrey Thomas. In 1921 the Register was taken over by the Adelaide Advertiser.

Primarily a newspaper and journal publisher, W. K. Thomas and Co. also published a number of books, notably South Australian autobiographies and reminiscences, poetry, almanacs and travel guides.
