BiographyHistory

French author and philosopher best known for her foundational feminist tract The Second Sex. Beauvoir's 1955 essay Must We Burn de Sade? protested the French government's plan to destroy 120 Days of Sodom and three other major works by the Marquis de Sade. De Beauvoir's essay was banned in Australia in 1956.
